What is the best thing about owning an electric bike?

You can go much, much further and see a lot more with assistance of the battery, than on a regular pedal bike. Overtake all the slow pokes on the road, as you can gain quite a bit of speed with the electric bike.

You are not dependent on the roads and will not be stuck in a traffic jam, instead you can explore local bike paths, parks and forests, and go any place where a car or a motorcycle are not allowed to go.

You will be able to find a lot more scenery, explore more places, go to far away locales and come back without being completely exhausted from pedaling all day long. Unless that is your goal, then by all means - turn off the PAS (pedal assist system) and sweat away!

Tired? Feeling lazy and sluggish - but still want to go for a ride to get some fresh air? No Problem, turn your motor on and throttle up, ride without pedaling at all!

Maybe you wish to get some groceries, but think they are too heavy to carry by hand? Great! Here is a chance to utilize that strong motor! Just tie you shopping to the back rack and get back home in a jiffy.

What is the difference between pedal-assist (including cadence sensor) and throttle-assist e-bikes?

Pedal-assist e-bikes are designed to only actuate the motor when the rider is pedalling. On the other hand, throttle-assist e-bikes have the ability to generate full power on demand to give you that quick burst to climb a hill or safely get through an intersection. Ideally you would want your e-bike to be equipped to do both, which is the case with all of our models.

Can you ride the greaser like a normal bike if the battery runs flat?

YES! ALL Michael Blast e-bikes are equipped with a high quality Shimano™ 7 Speed gearing system, so even if you were to run out of the battery power you can always ride just like on a normal bike.

Which is more suitable for me - a hub or a mid-drive motor?

For the vast majority of riders, a hub motor is the obvious choice given that it generates more torque, requires no maintenance and is the more affordable option when compared to a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors are best suited for advanced technical terrain riding, where weight distribution becomes more important.

How fast can michael blast e-bikes go?

The top speed of the Michael Blast bikes is 32km/h (20MPH). This of cource depends on the riding conditions such as riders weight, terrain, weather, wind etc. From factory the Michael Blast e-bikes are preset to have a maximum top speed of 32km/h (20MPH) to comply with EN15194 certification, but some models can be class 3 e-bikes and can go as high as 45km/h (28MPH).

What is the weight capacity of your e-bikes?

The weight capacity of all of our models is approximately 260lbs.

How far can the michael blast e-bikes take me, before it needs to be re-charged?

This depends entirely on road, weather and charge level of the battery. Also, rider's fitness level. You can get up to 60-80 miles per full charge, the more pedaling you do the greater the range of the battery.

Do I need to pedal the bike to move?

In pedal assist mode the motor automatically provides assistance proportionate to the rider’s pedaling effort. The harder the rider pedals, the more the assistance the system will provide. In throttle mode, the rider can propel the bike without having to pedal.

Does the battery charge while I am peddling?

Pedaling will conserve the battery, but it doesn’t actually charge it. The battery will only charge when it is plugged into the wall.

Are the bikes permitted aboard an airplane?

Currently, U.S. Department of Transportation regulations prohibit all e-bikes from being transported aboard commercial aircrafts due to the lithium ion batteries being categorized as “dangerous goods”. That being said, all major courier delivery services including FedEx, UPS and DHL are capable of shipping e-bikes.

Is the michael blast e-bikes legal for use on north american roads, shared pathways and bike paths?

YES! The MICHAEL BLAST E-BIKES complie with EN15194 as a PEDELEC and is therefore 100% legal for use in US and Canada.

Wherever you can legally ride a bicycle the Michael Blast e-bike can also be ridden, as long as you abide by your local State, Province and Territories rules, laws and regulations. (Please check before you ride.)

How do I recharge the battery in the michael blast e-bike and how long does it take?

The GREASER is supplied with its own Lithium-Ion charger, this charger plugs into any household wall socket and then connects to your Michael Blast e-bike charging port located under the battery tank. It takes approximately 4 hrs to fully charge the battery.

Assembly & Maintenance

Use this section for questions you may have about the assembly & maintenance of your bike.

Where can I find the serial number on my bike?

The serial number is located under the bottom bracket or the head tube.

Once I receive my bike, how much assembly is required?

The assembly required is minimal. Greaser, Outsider, Vacay needs handle bar and pedals installed. Vacay need front wheel and front fender installed as well.

How much maintenance is required?

Aside from the need to keep your battery charged, maintaining a Michael Blast e-bike is the same as any bicycle.

After 100 miles, a basic tune-up is required, which is standard procedure for all new bikes once they have been broken in. Otherwise, the simple and most important thing required is to check the tire pressure regularly and keep them properly inflated as indicated on the tire.

If riding in wet conditions, take extra care by ensuring the drivetrain is clean and well-lubricated. Minor adjustments or repairs due to general wear and tear will come up from time to time, which can be performed at any local bike shop.

If you are not riding your bike in the winter or any other lengthy amount of time, the battery needs to be recharged once a month to keep in functional, otherwise it will decease.

Does the battery need to be completely dead before I recharge it?

All our models are equipped with a lithium ion battery that has no “memory effect”, which means that you can charge the battery at any time regardless of its state of charge without doing damage to it. When not in use, the battery should ideally be stored with a full charge.

Are quick chargers available for the batteries?

No, a quick charge is harmful to the chemical structure of the battery cells and would reduce the battery’s lifespan.

How long until I need to replace the batteries?

You can expect your battery to last for two to four years depending on usage. Lithium batteries tend to lose their capacity over time and require replacement after approximately 500 charge cycles! This equates to approximately 25,000 km of total travel per battery. Provided you look after them!

This means not overly discharging or charging them, NEVER using any other battery charger other than the one supplied with the Michael Blast e-bike and NEVER discharge your battery past the automatic cutoff level.

Can the greaser be ridden in the rain?

The GREASER IS water-resistant, meaning, if you were to ride through a small puddle or in a light rain the GREASER should be fine. HOWEVER, riding in a HEAVY rain should be avoided if possible. Although, the motor and battery are IP65 rated, water damage is never covered under our warranty.

If we say:

- "Yes, it is 100% waterproof." We will always get that one person that decides,

- "Yeah, waterproof must mean I can go do some river jumping, put it on YouTube and she’ll be sweet to ride again."

- "False."

Please treat your bike with appropriate care and it will last you a long time.
